Exciting things are happening in our DMS Science of Technology classes!
Our 7th and 8th graders have been diving into PLTW Computer Science, exploring programming and working with microcontrollers. This week, they took their creativity to the next level by designing their own input devices using copper tape and aluminum! 🖥️⚙️ They're learning how different inputs work and discovering how technology responds to each one.
Meanwhile, our 6th graders have been working through the PLTW Design and Modeling design process with their teams to create their own puzzle cubes. Last week, Mr. Keeling, Mr. Rehm, and Ms. Walter took on the students' challenge, working through as many puzzle cubes as they could—and we all had a blast!
Way to go, DMS innovators and problem-solvers!
Addyson Crail proudly represented the middle school as she led the Pledge of Allegiance during Tuesday night's school board meeting!
Thanks to the Dardanelle Primary school for allowing the Dardanelle Middle School Student Council to help with the Primary Thanksgiving Feast!
Over the past two weeks, students and faculty at Dardanelle Middle School have brought in food items for our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Together, we collected just shy of 2,000 items. We were able to complete 22 food boxes, each one to be sent to families in our Dardanelle community. Additional items will be donated to the Sharing and Caring food pantry.
We would like to give a big shoutout to all of our FBLA and Jr. Beta members for their assistance in collecting, organizing, and building boxes! We would also like to thank all those in our community who donated.
Wishing everyone a Happy World Kindness Day from DMS!
Happy National School Psychology Week! This week is an annual opportunity to celebrate the important role of school psychologists in helping children succeed in school, at home, and in life.
Reminder: Next Friday is the last day to donate to the Thanksgiving food drive!
FBLA and BETA are teaming up to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support families in need over the holiday season. Together, these student organizations are encouraging donations of non-perishable food items beginning November 4th and concluding on November 18th. If you have any questions, please contact Zach Carter at zach.carter@dardanellelizards.com.
Our 8th-grade FBLA members recently attended their annual Fall Conference at the University of Central Arkansas! Congratulations to our FBLA president, Emberleigh Titsworth, for winning the Cover Design competition! Our members enjoyed a fantastic time, met guest speaker Brandon Lee White, and are eager for more events like this in the future!
Congratulations to our Junior High Boys' Cross Country team for winning 1st place at the district meet on Monday! We also want to recognize our Junior High Girls' team for finishing 5th place. We are very proud of all their hard work and dedication in achieving this success!
Family & community engagement spooktacular!
DMS 6th-grade students participated in Farm to You through the Yell County Cooperative Extension. Farm to You is an interactive traveling adventure for students that follows food from the farm to the grocery store and through the body. It explores the relationships between Arkansas agriculture, food, nutrition, and health. Thank you to all of our presenters for coming out to support our students' education.

Ms. Killer and Ms. Watson's 6th-grade classes dove deep into their literacy unit- "Surviving the Unthinkable." After exploring incredible stories of people who overcame the odds to survive hurricanes, the students felt inspired to help those currently facing similar challenges. Eager to make a real-world impact, they organized a fundraiser, raising an impressive total of $508.90 between the classes. We are incredibly proud of these compassionate 6th graders and the meaningful difference they are making in people's lives in North Carolina!
Next week is Red Ribbon Week here at DMS, and from October 28th to November 1st, we have some exciting dress-up days to help us celebrate being drug-free!
Many of our DMS 8th graders recently participated in a Natural Resources & Green Careers Expo at Arkansas Tech University. They were able to interact with exhibitors from state/federal/local agencies, businesses, corporations, and organizations to learn about professions that exist in the environmental, natural resources, and conservation fields. Our students had lots of fun and look forward to more events like this in the future!
DMS Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held tonight!
Happy National Boss Day to two of the best!
In Mrs. George's Science of Technology PLTW classes, we have spent the past few weeks designing and creating our own puzzle cubes. Students worked in pairs to design and draw each puzzle piece using multiview sketches. Then, they used Tinker CAD to build a 3D version of their cube. After completing this part of the project, they began building and gluing together their puzzle cubes. Finally, they were able to challenge other students and staff to complete their puzzles. It has been a fun few weeks, and now the students get to take home their own cubes!
Yesterday, students in Coach Mayes' and Mrs. Robinson's 6th-grade science classes created their clouds through an experiment. During their lab, students observed and described the formation of a "cloud" in a closed system. They explained how water evaporates and condenses to form clouds and how water changes form during the water cycle. Additionally, they connected the cloud formation in the lab to the water cycle in nature.
