🧠 Our 6th-grade PLTW Medical Detectives are diving deep into the nervous system! This week, students explored how the nervous system functions and took a closer look at neurons—the building blocks of the brain. After learning about the different parts of a neuron and how they work together to send messages throughout the body, students put their creativity to the test! Using a variety of classroom supplies, they built 3D models of neurons and labeled each part to reinforce their understanding. We love seeing hands-on learning in action and watching our future scientists shine! 💡👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Over the last few weeks, 6th-grade students in Mrs. Schafer’s Social Studies classes have learned about Ancient China. The Ancient Chinese are credited with inventing tea, so students tried Chinese Oolong tea while learning about the history and the importance of tea ceremonies to their culture. Students also enjoyed a fortune cookie while reflecting on what their fortune meant through a writing prompt.

We wanted to share some exciting progress from our recent collaborative science lab between Coach Mayes's and Mrs. Robinson's classes. Last week, our students completed the "Ramping Up Transfers of Energy" investigation. Students explored the relationship between mass, speed, and energy transfer during this hands-on lab. They collected quantitative data by: - Weighing various objects to determine mass - Measuring distances to analyze energy transfer - Recording and comparing results across multiple trials The students used the evidence they collected to construct scientific arguments about how mass and speed affect energy transfer. This experiential learning opportunity reinforced key physics concepts while developing their analytical thinking skills. We are thrilled with how effectively the students engaged with the scientific process and utilized data to support their conclusions.
