Many of our DMS 8th graders recently participated in a Natural Resources & Green Careers Expo at Arkansas Tech University. They were able to interact with exhibitors from state/federal/local agencies, businesses, corporations, and organizations to learn about professions that exist in the environmental, natural resources, and conservation fields. Our students had lots of fun and look forward to more events like this in the future!

In Mrs. George's Science of Technology PLTW classes, we have spent the past few weeks designing and creating our own puzzle cubes. Students worked in pairs to design and draw each puzzle piece using multiview sketches. Then, they used Tinker CAD to build a 3D version of their cube. After completing this part of the project, they began building and gluing together their puzzle cubes. Finally, they were able to challenge other students and staff to complete their puzzles. It has been a fun few weeks, and now the students get to take home their own cubes!

Yesterday, students in Coach Mayes' and Mrs. Robinson's 6th-grade science classes created their clouds through an experiment. During their lab, students observed and described the formation of a "cloud" in a closed system. They explained how water evaporates and condenses to form clouds and how water changes form during the water cycle. Additionally, they connected the cloud formation in the lab to the water cycle in nature.

Ms. Hunter's class had visitors from FUMC in Russellville today. They brought a carved pumpkin, which the students were able to touch and see the inside of. They also learned about the pumpkin's life cycle. Laurie Caudell read stories to the class and worked on a craft. It was a Fun Friday at DMS! Thank you, FUMC Russellville!

This week in PLTW, students learned about accuracy, measurement, and two systems: U.S. Customary Standard and metric. They practiced using a ruler and reading dimensioned sketches, then created their own sketches. Students were able to build their own paper skimmers and then use their sketches. While working on paper skimmers, they measured distances traveled over three trials, recording data for analysis in the next lesson.
